The Planable thesis

Planable is not primarily a scheduling tool. It is a content approval tool that happens to schedule. The product is built around the workflow: create content > share with client/stakeholder > receive feedback > approve > schedule.

If that workflow is not your pain point — if you schedule autonomously without client review — Planable is overpriced compared to Buffer or Metricool. If approvals are where your hours go, Planable earns its price.

The per-user model is Planable’s main pricing consideration. At $11/user/mo for a 5-person team, that is $55/mo — higher than Metricool Advanced ($45/mo) or Publer Small Business ($25/mo) for comparable scheduling. The premium is for the approval UX.

The visual content calendar

Planable’s content calendar is the best visual calendar in the market. Each post renders as it will appear on the platform — Instagram posts show with their image and caption preview, LinkedIn posts show with the link card, Twitter/X threads show as threaded.

This matters for client approval: clients can see exactly what will be published rather than reading raw text in a spreadsheet. Approval rates are higher when the content is visually accurate.

The approval workflow

Planable’s core feature:

  1. Create content in the calendar
  2. Share a review link with the client (they do not need a Planable account)
  3. Client comments with inline feedback on specific posts
  4. Agency revises and re-shares
  5. Client approves (one-click) or requests another revision
  6. Approved posts are queued for scheduling

The multi-level approval on Pro plan allows: junior → senior → client sign-off chains. No post can be scheduled until all required approvers have signed off.

For agencies managing multiple brands with different approval chains, this is a meaningful operational improvement over email thread-based approval.

What Planable does well

Client-facing review experience. The review link requires no login. Clients click the link, see a visual feed of upcoming posts, and click Approve or leave a comment. The friction is minimal — agencies report faster approval turnaround when switching from PDF decks or email chains to Planable review links.

Multi-workspace management. Agency plan supports separate workspaces per client, each with its own team members, approval chain, and content calendar. The workspace switching is clean.

Inline comments. Feedback is left directly on the post, not in a separate email thread. “Move the logo to the right” is annotated on the specific image. Comments are resolved when addressed, keeping the workflow clean.

Duplicate across platforms. Draft a post once, then modify and adapt for each platform. Saves time on cross-platform content without duplicating work from scratch.

Where Planable falls short

Analytics. Planable’s analytics are basic — engagement totals, click summary, follower trend. Not competitive with Metricool, Hootsuite, or Sprout Social. For analytics-led social media teams, Planable needs to be paired with a separate analytics tool.

Scheduling-only value is weak. Without the approval workflow, Planable is expensive for what it offers. If you do not need client approval, Buffer or Metricool are better value.

Free tier is severely limited. The 50-post total lifetime limit makes the free tier a very limited trial, not a functional free plan. Plan to evaluate on the $11/user Basic plan.

Per-user pricing at agency scale. A 10-person agency team pays $110/mo Basic — more than Hootsuite Professional ($249/mo) but with fewer features. The value proposition is the approval UX, not breadth.

Who Planable is for

Agencies with active client approval requirements. The review link and approval workflow justify the per-user premium for teams where approval is the bottleneck.

In-house marketing teams with executive or legal review. The multi-level approval on Pro plan handles sign-off chains without email threads.

Content teams where visual accuracy matters. The visual calendar preview reduces “this looks different than I expected” feedback after publishing.

The verdict

Planable earns 8.3/10. The approval workflow is the best in the market at this price range. The analytics are weak but this is not the tool’s primary purpose. The per-user pricing makes it expensive for solo operators.

Buy Planable if: approvals are your primary operational pain point and you have 3+ people in the workflow.

Skip Planable if: you schedule autonomously, need strong analytics, or are a solo operator where per-user pricing does not make sense.

The pricing model is the moat, not the feature list. Per-channel tools (Buffer, Later) cost $5/channel — cheap for 1–3 brands, brutal at 10+. Per-user tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) start at $99/mo for one user — cheap for solos, brutal at 5+ team members. Every top-5 SERP listicle calls "Buffer cheap" and "Sprout expensive" without saying for whom. If you're a 12-brand agency with 3 teammates, Buffer is the expensive one.
